Mosquitoes: Do they carry the coronavirus?

Temecula Pest Control Services- Wheeler’s Pest Control

The (COVID-19) VIRUS is on everyone’s mind, with California following a lockdown procedure to reduce the spread of the virus.

People in all of California, see summer as the starting point of mosquito’s season. As known carriers of vitreous diseases such as malaria, dengue fever and more, most people are wondering “can mosquitoes spread coronavirus to humans?”. The answer is, who knows for sure!”

Experts are learning about this virus as time goes by and they are finding out this virus is similar to other Covid types viruses but different in many ways!                          If the virus is capable of replicating in the mosquito’s gut and salivary glands it essentially could be carried by mosquitos if the mosquito can be infected with the virus themselves??

The good news is that the (CDC), (WHO), and the (AMCA) all agree that the mosquitoes are not a vector simply because they can’t become infected by the virus??? So, they “think” at this point!

The virus is primarily spread by airborne droplets produced from sneezes and coughs or by touching contaminated surfaces. In this instance, a disinfection service can support businesses dealing with the effects of the Covid-19 by sanitizing touch-points, surfaces, equipment and floors.

Most states have introduced a lockdown procedure to help stop the spread of this virus. As a result, a lot of us are spending more time outdoors in our yards, enjoying the warm weather, or even going for walks as part of the daily exercise allowance.

Although, as of now, mosquitoes are not known to spread the disease, they are known vectors of several other harmful diseases. Unfortunately, these biting insects haven’t quite grasped social distancing yet, so you and your family members are still at risk of being infected by a mosquito                                                                              There are a number of recommended tips to help avoid mosquito activity in and around your home which you can do to keep you and your family safe whilst enjoying the sunshine in a sensible manner during government lockdowns.

  • Remove standing water. Mosquitoes can breed with less than a teaspoon of water.
  • Keep air circulated with a fan. Mosquitoes aren’t strong fliers!
  • Avoid certain times of the day. Mosquitoes are more active at dusk and dawn.
  • Wear insect repellent when outside. Mosquitos can’t stand the stuff!
  • Clear Gutters of all debris, damp wet leaves can harbor mosquitos and make sure your down spouts are clear and working and not holding any water.
  • Make sure bushes are trimmed back so sun light can get to the ground and keep it dry!
